Original: temporary issues with phone verification should be resolved shortly — if you tried to authenticate last night or this morning and got a "cannot be verified" error, please wait a few hours and try again. if you're authenticating now for the first time, please allow some time for the elves to work through the backlog.

We have a DB that decided to take an unscheduled vacation. All site functions will be read only while it is sorted out and fixed up.
